About Zcash
What is Zcash (ZEC)?
Zcash is an independent cryptocurrency launched in 2016. It began with Bitcoin's code base and added zero-knowledge proofs for private payments. ZEC is the native coin used for transfers and network fees. The same chain supports transparent and shielded transactions, so the privacy of a payment depends on the address types and transaction path involved. Owning ZEC does not mean every transfer you make is automatically hidden from public view.
What is the difference between transparent and shielded Zcash?
Transparent transactions expose addresses and amounts on the public ledger. A fully shielded payment can conceal the sender, recipient and amount while proving that the transaction follows the network rules. Moving funds between transparent and shielded parts of the chain reveals information at the transparent boundary. For example, sending to a transparent exchange address leaves the received amount visible. The people and services involved can also retain their own records of the payment.
Which Zcash addresses does NonLogs support?
NonLogs accepts ZEC deposits to the transparent address shown in your account, beginning with t1. Withdrawals support valid transparent mainnet addresses beginning with t1 or t3. Shielded and Unified Address destinations are not supported here. Some Zcash wallets choose a shielded receiving address by default, so request a supported transparent destination before withdrawing. This exchange limitation concerns the address used for the transfer; it does not create a separate version of the ZEC coin.
How does Zcash mining and supply work?
Zcash uses Equihash proof-of-work mining. Its issuance schedule limits the monetary base to 21 million ZEC and reduces the block subsidy through periodic halvings. The target block interval is 75 seconds; it is an average, not a deadline for each payment. Protocol rules also allocate parts of the subsidy to ecosystem funding. Those allocations can change through network upgrades, so a historical funding split should not be treated as a permanent rule.
What is a Unified Address?
The original Unified Address format packages one or more shielded receivers and may include a transparent receiver in a single address string. Compatible wallets select a receiver they support, with preference rules intended to preserve privacy. It is an address format, not another coin or a bridge to another blockchain. A service must explicitly support that format to use it. NonLogs currently requires a standalone transparent address instead, even when the recipient's wallet can also display a Unified Address.
