About Verge
What is Verge (XVG)?
Verge is an open-source cryptocurrency for payments between people and businesses. It began in 2014 as DogeCoinDark and was renamed Verge in 2016. XVG is the native currency of its own blockchain, with its own transaction history and mining rules. A wallet authorizes a transfer using cryptographic keys, and network participants check the transaction. The earlier DogeCoinDark name is part of Verge's history; Dogecoin operates a separate network with a different native coin.
What kind of privacy does Verge provide?
Verge wallets can use Tor to reduce exposure of the network address from which they communicate. This concerns the connection between a wallet and its peers. Ordinary XVG transactions still appear on a public blockchain, with visible amounts and spending relationships. Someone who links a payment address to a person can examine its on-chain activity. The privacy obtained therefore depends on the wallet's connection settings, address use and information shared outside the blockchain.
How does Verge mining work?
Verge uses five proof-of-work algorithms: Scrypt, X17, Lyra2rev2, Myr-Groestl and BLAKE2s. Miners search for a valid proof using a supported algorithm, and nodes check both the proof and the block's transactions. The mainnet target block interval is thirty seconds. Individual blocks can take more or less time. The five algorithms contribute to the same Verge ledger, so an XVG payment does not need a separate destination for each mining algorithm.
How does Verge's issuance schedule work?
Verge used a series of early reward reductions, followed by a subsidy of 400 XVG from block 3,700,001. That subsidy halved every 500,000 blocks through seven reward periods. The published Core rules set the subsidy to zero from block 7,200,001 onward. Miners can still collect transaction fees paid from existing XVG. The reward formula describes scheduled creation; calculating the amount currently held or spendable also requires the chain's actual issuance and spending history.
What should I check before transferring XVG?
Use Verge mainnet and the native XVG address shown on your current NonLogs deposit page. Tokens issued on another chain under related branding require their own network and are separate from this deposit. Check that the sending wallet has working peer connections and is following the current chain. Keep its transaction identifier so you can look up the payment. A locally created transaction needs to reach the network and enter a block before it has a confirmation.
Where can I trade XVG on NonLogs?
XVG markets listed below link to the relevant trading pages. Each pair prices its first asset in the second currency; check the order of the symbols to identify those units. The chart on each trading page records completed trades on that NonLogs market, so inspect the latest trade time and available orders when choosing a price. Bids, offers and quantities may have changed since the last execution. A blockchain explorer shows XVG transfers and blocks; the trading page shows the exchange's orders and market activity.
