What is Bitcoin BLAKE2b (BTCB2)?
BTCB2 is the NonLogs symbol for a Bitcoin-derived chain that changed its mining algorithm to BLAKE2b. The project's release identifies block 961640 as the first BLAKE2b block, dated August 30, 2026. The fork carries forward earlier transaction history and then follows separate blocks and consensus rules. NonLogs lists BTCB2 and BTC as separate assets, with their own deposits, withdrawals and markets. The BTC symbol here continues to identify the SHA-256 Bitcoin chain.
What changed in this fork?
The release changes proof of work and introduces a new block-header format, so software that only validates Bitcoin's older headers needs an update to follow it. The project also imposes temporary limits on arbitrary transaction data and block weight. Those limits expire when the previous block's median time reaches September 1, 2027, unless node operators adopt further changes. The BLAKE2b mining change continues after that expiry under the published rules.
How does its replay protection work?
The fork introduces an optional signature method called SIGHASH_UNIFIED. Protected signatures fail on chains that do not implement that method. Ordinary signatures can remain valid on both chains wherever their spending history is shared, so a Bitcoin transaction may be replayed onto BTCB2. The mining change alone does not prevent this. A wallet must use the new signing method for its protection to apply, including when an external signer or hardware device creates the signature.
How are supply and historical balances handled?
BTCB2 inherits the pre-fork issuance history and Bitcoin-derived subsidy schedule. Coins recorded before the split can have corresponding unspent outputs on both chains, while later transactions and mining rewards can differ. Access to a historical output depends on its spending conditions and the relevant keys. NonLogs operates a separate BTCB2 wallet and does not automatically credit users with historical fork claims.
